Although GM has come a long way from the 4x6's and 8-tracks forced on long suffering corvette owners in the 70's, the stock system in the C6, even the fancy GPS one, can't hold a candle to the equipment available on the aftermarket, lacking such essentials as iPod integration. After consulting with Mike Cofield, President of the Austin based national car electronics chain Custom Sounds, he sent me to see his crew at their headquarters location in Austin, literally giving us carte blanche, anything we wanted in the store. It felt like Christmas in July.

When I say Mike sent me to see his crew, I mean crew. Once I arrived techs and craftsman began swarming all over the car, taking measurements, checking color swatches, and pulling off panels, looking like a NASCAR pit crew trying to get us back in the race.

In reality the system that Custom Sounds district manager Fadi Issa, store manager Chris Burrow and their team planned would not have me down the road in 60 seconds or less. In fact the Custom Sounds team would take just over 3 weeks to determine the equipment loadout, install the base electronics, and then build a custom amp rack and a very custom fiberglass box in the back. We got it ready just in time for the Texas Heatwave show.
