For the herpetoculturist tired with California kingsnakes or cornsnakes, a mountain kingsnake captive breeding project sounds like a refreshing challenge. Fortunately, most wild specimens acclimate to captivity; captive bred examples usually always fare well. Their captive care varies only slightly from species to species. Here, a few important guidelines for the keeper have been given, with additional notes for special subspecies care where warranted.
