Ig of the Month
Meet Ralph
Ralph came to IRN in August of 2003. She had a
punctured eyeball, which she had to have immediately removed as it was
causing her pain and would continue to undergo necrosis and may have led
to septicemia. She received this injury while she was on a leash
outdoors and basking on her log. Somehow, she became frightened and
and ensnared herself on her leash and punctured her eyeball with a piece
of her log.
Ralph is a very mellow 10-year old female iguana who was a
classroom iguana for most of her life. She is now lounging in her
own room at I.R.N., healing and awaiting her second eye surgery. She
is a remarkably sweet girl with a great will to live.
She has been on a long course of systemic antibiotic
therapy, and will require a second surgery to remove the gauze that was placed
in her empty orbit to staunch the bleeding during her eye enucleation
surgery. Although we received a donation to pay for a little over
half of the surgery, we still need funding to pay for the rest of the
surgery as well as her medication. Unfortunately, this has resulted
in volunteers using their credit cards and are still waiting for
reimbursement from I.R.N. If you would like to make a cash donation
towards Ralph's surgery and care, please click

You Can Help Page. These range from specifying us as your cause
to donate to from places you shop at to purchasing merchandise I.R.N. has
created.
