The above snake was found and photographed by Chris Harrison in the Indio Mts. in Southern Hudspeth County.

Range in Texas: Found only in the Trans-Pecos Region.

Comments: The Moutain Patch-nosed Snake is a slender, very fast snake usually found in the rockier areas of Hudspeth County. The average size of the snake is about 2 feet. I usually find these snakes in the heat of the day whipping along in search of lizards and insects. They will bite when first found but some will calm in captivity. They are referred to locally as the "striped racer".
