Ground Snake

(Sonora semiannulata)

Size: Up to 20" but more commonly around 12"

Range in Texas: Found in all but the southeast portion of the state.

Comments: The ground snake is one of the most variable snakes in the U.S. as far as coloration and pattern are concerned. They can be plain brown like in the picture above to striped to almost tri-colored like a coral snake. When found they are very squirmy and difficult to pick up. Eats various insects.
