He could get too much of the soil and end up with some intestinal problems or even an impaction. You could lay a piece of window screen over the soil to keep him from getting at it. Sometimes chams are attracted to shiny bits of mica in the soil. I've heard a very occasional story of a cham eating too much Schefflera and having some neurological reactions to it, but it was temporary. What about trying leafy greens if he's that keen on eating greens?
