(Its not the venom that makes a snake beautiful!!!)

My name is Richard Mastenbroek I'm a private snake collector from the Netherlands (Europe). I'm 24 years old and specialized in Elapid snakes.

I like Elapids because they are active snakes that show a nice behaviour in captivity. The shape of the body which is from most slender but strong with a roundish head is what I like. Species like Kingcobras, Mambas, Taipans and forest cobras show a sort of intelligence for how far you can talk about intelligence by reptiles. They seem to react differently on certain colours, persons, smells and movements and even object are been regonized or it looks like it. All of this combined is why I like elapids.

Breeding is my main goal from keeping snakes, from breeding you learn allot of special information about the behaviour of a certain species. y also show a type of behaviour that is special to the species which make it more interesting.

I worked as the headreptile Keeper of a Big cat and reptile sanctuary Pantera . At the centre we keep around 65 big cats including Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Cougars, Jaguars and more. We also have around 500 terrariums reserved for reptiles. Most of our animals came from zoos and privates that didn´t had the time, space or money for them to keep them. Reptiles are dumbt by privates and petshops others are there for breeding programmas . At the centre we also give courses in regonizing CITES reptiles, and animal welfare .

A television crue of CasTelMedia has filmed a documentary soap about the centre in which is shown how the day is at Pantera. There is also website about the documentary named the people of the bigcat and reptile sanctuary

In the past I travelled around the world for a fair bit. In Australia I worked as a venom extractor at Venom Supplies Pty Ltd. and learned at this Lab. a great deal about Australias Vernomous fauna. My special thanks to Tim Nias curator of Venom Supplies.
