RIVER COOTER Pseudemys concinna (LeConte, 1830) 

      STATUS:  Uncommon

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  Collin Co.:  Wylie area and Brockdale Park Handy Capped area on Lake Lavon;  Dallas Co.:  Sandy Lake Rd. at the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, Sandy Lake, Spring Creek area N of Garland, and Turtle Creek;  Denton Co.:  Lost Lake at Pilot Point;  Wise Co.:  6.5 mi W Bridgeport near Lake Bridgeport  

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas, Denton, Tarrant, and Wise

      HABITAT:  Trinity River Bottoms

      SUBSPECIES:  Metter's River Cooter (P. c. metteri Ward, 1984)

      COMMENTS:  There exists much confusion over this species and the Texas river cooter (Pseudemys texana) throughout the state.
