SMOOTH SOFTSHELL Apalone mutica (LeSueur, 1827) 

      STATUS:  Rare

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  Dallas Co.:  Cedar Creek at the Trinity River;  Parker Co.:  5.4 mi N of Tx 171 on US 377 in Bear Creek;  Somervell Co.:  Brazos River at Tx 67;  Tarrant Co.:  below Lake Worth dam

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Denton, Somervell, and Tarrant

      HABITAT:  Trinity River Bottoms and Brazos River Bottoms

      SUBSPECIES:  Midland Smooth Softshell [A. m. mutica (LeSueur, 1827)]

      COMMENTS:  There are no recent records of the midland smooth softshell in the Trinity River.  Specimens need to be brought in for confirmation.
