COMMON GARTER SNAKE Thamnophis sirtalis (Linnaeus, 1758) 

      STATUS:  Uncommon

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  Collin Co.:  2 mi SW of Farmersville, Wylie area, 2.1 mi N jct of FM 6 near FM 1138, Blue Ridge, N of Sachse, and 2 mi E of Lucus near Brockdale Park on Lake Lavon;  Dallas Co.:  Skillman Ave. at White Rock Creek, Mt. Creek Lake area, and Spring Creek area N of Garland;  Johnson Co.:  2.7 mi SW of US 67 on Park Rd. 21;  Kaufman Co.:  9.4 mi ESE of Tx 34 on FM 1836;  Parker Co.:  2 mi S of Aledo, 8 mi W of Benbrook on Benbrook-Aledo Rd., 5 mi SE of Aledo on FM 2376, and at jct of FM 5 and I-20;  Tarrant Co.:  Walnut Creek at the Benbrook-Aledo Rd., the Botanic Gardens in Trinity Park, and 2 mi W of Benbrook on Benbrook-Aledo Rd

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise.

      HABITAT:  Fort Worth Prairie, Mesquite Grand Prairie, Trinity River Bottoms, and Blackland Prairie

      SUBSPECIES:  Texas Garter Snake (T. s. annectens Brown, 1950)     

      COMMENTS:  The Texas garter snake is not as common as it once was.
