PLAINS BLIND SNAKE Leptotyphlops dulcis (Baird & Girard, 1853) 

      STATUS:  Common

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  Dallas Co.:  Westmoreland at Jefferson Blvd., 2 mi SE of Mansfield, and Dallas Nature Center near Duncanville;  Denton Co.:  18.3 S of Gainesville on FM 51 and Aubrey area;  Johnson Co.:  12.8 mi W of Rio Vista at Johnson Ranch;  Parker Co.:  3 mi E of Cresson, 3 mi N of Aledo near Mary's Creek, and 2.5 mi S of Aledo on FM 2376;  Tarrant Co.:  Hillridge Ct. in NW Arlington, near UTA campus, Lake Worth Park, 5 mi S of Azle, Benbrook-Aledo Hills, and Briarwood in Arlington;  Wise Co.:  Lyndon B. Johnson Nat'l Grasslands NW of Decatur, 4 mi N of Decatur, .2 mi SW of Flat Rock Cementary

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas, Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise

      HABITAT:  Western Cross Timbers, Mesquite Grand Prairie, Fort Worth Prairie, Eastern Cross Timbers, and Cedar-limestone Hills

      SUBSPECIES:  Plains Blind Snake [L. d. dulcis (Baird & Girard, 1853)]

      COMMENTS:  The plains blind snake is much more common than indicated by the observations.
