NIGHT SNAKE Hypsiglena torquata (Gunther, 1860) 

      STATUS:  Rare

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  Denton Co.:  2.9 mi S US 377 on FM 455;  Tarrant Co.:  near Azle and Inspiration Point overlooking Lake Worth

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise

      HABITAT:  Western Cross Timbers and Rolling Plains

      SUBSPECIES:  Texas Night Snake [H. t. jani (Duges, 1865)]

      COMMENTS:  The Texas night snake should be more common in the western part of the Metroplex than indicated by these observations.
