EASTERN NEWT Notophthalmus viridescens (Rafinesque, 1820)

      STATUS:  Very rare

      LOCALITIES OBSERVED:  None 

      DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas and Kaufman

      HABITAT: Post Oak Belt

      SUBSPECIES:  Central Newt [N. v. louisianensis (Wolterstorff, 1914)]

      COMMENTS:  Data on the Dallas County central newt specimen do not indicate what habitat it came from.  No observations have been reported on this species from the Metroplex.
