Here are some moving and interesting quotes we have collected

“I am trying to not stress about it & I don't think it is fair that I have to get rid of all my pets etc …when I am taking such good care of my

pets etc, I could not possibly get rid of any of them and there isn't one that I could part with. It was suggested I do that, but the thought alone brings me to tears.

I would be lying if I said I didn't think about it, but briefly & the I just cry at the thought of losing them. Then I went out today & browsed some stores & went into

a pet store near my house. I saw an iguana (the sign said female 3 yr old ig for $399 yet!!! can you believe that price!!!) for sale, so sad, so unhealthy looking -it

was all brown, and it's feet were black! It was in a tiny tank (for that size of ig the tank was too small), no UVB, and had a small bowl of water, a dish of some

carrots & cauliflower & then another dish of something that looked like tuna or canned chicken. I almost died seeing that poor thing. Then I saw a puppy in a

small kennel thing just sitting there looking. Oh, how sad!!!!! How horrible!!! That made my mind up that I will not get rid of anyone here ever, my pets are

happy, well fed & most of all, very much loved & all get very much daily attention, I couldn't live with the thought of my iggy looking like that one I saw tonight one

day, or my dog sitting in a small kennel etc.

Someone will have to come & forcibly remove my pets from me if it came to that, plus, it would destroy my daughter if she didn't have her pets that she cares so

extremely much for & responsible 6 yr olds like that don't come around too much when it comes to caring & learning about animals & the passion she has for it.

I will keep you updated on what happens. :o)”

Gillian Bird, education officer of the

Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

admits they're no experts in caring for them but they've had to learn, because snakes are becoming popular pets.

"But you can take pretty much any city boy and give him

a cow and ask him to take care of it and he'll fail just

as miserably as ANY person who hasn't taken the time to

to keep as a pet. --I'm sure you've seen it *plenty* of

times with people who buy a breed of dog that may or may

not be suited to their living situation, whether they have

small children or not, or just because of the general

aggressiveness of that particular breed of dog.

"The problem is really one of people not taking the time to

research the species of animal they are interested in adopting

*before* they go out and get it. And it's enculturated and

endemic in this society that people do not do that.

"In general, that isn't true with hard core herpetoculturists.

So don't blame them for something that's really an educational

failure in our society. Frankly, if people weren't brought

up with dogs and cats they would have just as little clue

about how to care for them as that city dweller would have

about taking care of a cow."
