For an in depth discussion on the natural history of the Coastal Plains Milksnake go HERE.

The coastal plains milk snake is a brightly colored and much sought after species. They range from southern New Jersey to northeast North Carolina and true to their name inhabit coastal areas. They are frequently associated with river systems and flood plains. At the northern and southern extremes of their range they likely integrade with the eastern milk snake and the scarlet kingsnake respectively.

In the wild, coastals are difficult to collect at best. This may be attributable to their secretive nature however it is quite possible that they are also very rare. Due to efforts of several breeders, coastals are becoming more readily available. Neonates can be difficult to get started but once they begin taking mice they make hardy pets.
