I would like to be the first volunteer to tolerate a 6ft. Southern Copperhead; and I don't mean one of those Aussie Copperheads as long as a garden hose-r, whatever!

6 feet would be a respectable size for even the larger rattlesnakes. My guess is that--given the propensity of the general public to misidentify anything without a rattle on the end of its tail--harmless snakes are being mistaken for copperheads, or the measurements are way off and probably owe something to fear or intoxicants.
