Here in the USA and in Europe we have the most highly protected amphibians and reptiles in the world. You can't collect a mountain king snake, red-legged frog, or wood turtle, without being labeled an eco-terrorist! Our rare and endangered species now succumb to a failing environment. Looks like herpetologists are going to sink into the melting "subnivium" and pass away with falconers and naturalists in general.

Hi Wayne, we also have strict collecting laws in South Africa (not that they're adhered to). For good reason though, snakes bred in captivity are plentiful and research methods rarely require voucher specimens these days
