ICQ is a program which you can download for free and run on your computer. You can locate another user and request to chat to them. If they agree to chat to you then the program will show you when they are online and you can then chat directly to them.

A chat room allows you to carry on a conversation in real time by typing a line or 2 of text at a time and getting an immediate response from anywhere in the world (like internet relay chat but easier access and to use.) Most of the other people you are likely to chat to will be Americans.

We have decided to remove our chat room and link to the excellent chat pages at www.kingsnake.com instead, this will mean a greater chance of actually finding someone in the chat room!

For example if you go to the snake chat room you will find a schedule of speakers. Note that times given are in US time.

If you want to chat to a scheduled speaker you need to figure out the equivalent time in your city, - first you need to know how far ahead of GMT you are - Adelaide & Darwin are usually 9.5 Hrs ahead, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Canberra are usually 10 Hrs ahead, Perth is usually 8 hrs ahead (these are winter times when daylight saving is not in force) You then need to add this to the number of Hours that the US is behind ( 6 Hrs), This should give you a time difference of about 14 to 16 hrs which you then need to add to the scheduled time. Usually the scheduled time is 9pm, so in Australia the equivalent starting time is between 11 am Perth) and 1pm (Sydney) the following day. If this sounds too hard then just connect (preferably around midday) and see who is in the chat rooms that interest you.
