PHFaust: From sharks to alligators to anacondas, Nigel has proven he can hold his own in the animal kingdom! You may have seen him hosting Discovery's "Shark Week," "Nigel's Wild, Wild World," "Chased by Sea Monsters," or "Prehistoric Park" on Animal Planet. The host, film-maker and author will appear at the second annual North American Reptile Conference and Trade Show on Saturday and Sunday, February 22-23 at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington Texas, but first he is stopping by to chat with our members. Nigel is here to answer your questions about his life, his travels, and his shows. Nigel_nr: Thanks for Having Me! boaphile: Nigel, do you think there is a real possibility that some day, someone will be able to clone a Woolly Mammoth? Sheep and mice are one thing, but a Woolly Mammoth or something that is actually extinct would be awesome. Nigel_nr: one day....sperm could be collected from a frozen mammoth in Russia that could be used to inseminate an Asian elephant by back breeding the hybrid it may be possible to recreate the wooly boaphile: Yes but do you think it a possibility? Really? Nigel_nr: We made a Jeff Ronne didn't we? PHBoxTurtle: How many crew members go with you on location? Do they scare the herps? Or do you get them from preserves and zoos? Nigel_nr: 3. Most do not scare the herps, total experts. Cleo_nr: What was your most interesting trip? I watch the show regularly...make that shows. I love the National Geographic channel. Nigel_nr: Every trip is interesting......but meeting Komodos is way up there! JungleDancer: What is the most embarrassing thing that happened while filming any of your programs? Nigel_nr: The 1st time I had to pretend I was being chased by a dinosaur. The producer attacked me with a tennis ball on a stick while I had to imagine it was a dinosaur. PHBoxTurtle: Where do you think conservation is most needed? Nigel_nr: stopping deforestation.....MUST BE STOPPED.....particulary in s/e Asia. monkee_nr: What do you think of Super Croc? And do you feel that crocodilians are true living dinosaurs? Nigel_nr: I have been chased by a super croc......it was fun.....crocodiles were around before the dinosaurs and are pretty much unchanged. monkee_nr: Cool. I saw supercroc in Chicago.. Thanks. Nigel_nr: All spelling error credits go to the typer, Brian Potter. PHBoxTurtle: As a child did you keep many pets? What were they? Nigel_nr: I had European green lizards and a mag pie, a boa, and a caimen. Bruteybear_nr: Are you speaking or giving a presentation this weekend and what time if you are? Nigel_nr: Aldabra tortoises and crested geckos, also a siren and 2 owls. jamiestluke: What is the worlds biggest snake? Have you seen it? Nigel_nr: Green anaconda......biggest I have met was 15 feet. Caesar_nr: Are you currently filming anything right now or in the process of a new show? Nigel_nr: Yes......tigers PHBoxTurtle: What would be the show you would most like to do? Nigel_nr: Madagascar...never been to it. PHBoxTurtle: But what in Madagascar? Nigel_nr: Panther Chameleons and lemurs, and vangas. jamiestluke: Can I tell you some thing? Nigel_nr: No but I would love to be. boaphile: When you did the film on "Ugly Animals" why didn't you come look me up? Just kidding. I think. What was the closest call you have had to very serious injury or worse? Nigel_nr: If this is really Jeff you were on it but ended up on the cutting room floor......WAY TOO UGLY! boaphile: What was the closest call you have had to very serious injury or worse? Nigel_nr: Bull Shark attack in the Bahamas. 2 feet away when Erich Ritter was bitten...its all on tv for you to see. And then one time at band camp all of my boaphile cages fell on my head. boaphile: Same thing happened to Brian Potter didn't it? Nigel_nr: Twice. Brian liked it though. PHFaust: SC wanted to know what Ritter was bit by, was that also a bull shark? Nigel_nr: Yes it was a bull shark.......you have to see it on TV live.
