Chat Transcript: Kevin McCurley of NERD, Inc. October 31, 2004 PHFaust: Welcome everyone to our very special Halloween guest chat. I invited Kevin from NERD because well his ball pythons already come dressed up in costumes. :) We run things for guest chats with protocols in case you have never been here for one. Basically we request that everyone is quiet and doesn't chat openly in the room. If you have a question for Kevin simply type a "?" into the room and we will call on you in order. Now lets get started! Philly_nr: Kevin: With respect to ball pythons, why do you think it's a good investment NERD,INC: Because they are small, everyone who keeps snakes can keep a ball python. People are familiar with them so they are willing to take the plunge. Small clutches. Never too many babies. the perfect cornsnake in a python. I was doing them because at the time everyone overlooked them. no one took notice. I did, I like things other people may not dig diablodragon: what makes a labrinth ball python, i have seen a couple that look just like my baby, is he worth more than a normal or am I dreaming? NERD,INC: The extra noise on the sides Alien faces out of control Lots of tight pattern I still think it is a classic jungle thing w/o the yellow Polygenic type thing maybe Yes, worth more than a normal NERD,INC: Buyers market, remeber that!! Thomas j: How well do you think the Mojave market will hold up. And what do you think the Mojave to Mojave will produce NERD,INC: I think it will make white snakes...I could not imagine it not! I think the white snake market is going to be a level one Thomas j: Will that hurt the Mojave prices NERD,INC: I do not see Mojave's selling at huge prices There are lots of them out there but they are def. a valuable snake Thomas j: what do you see that will NERD,INC: takes time to level things Look at cinnamon pastels they make a black snake Thomas j: Say next 7 years NERD,INC: What do they really sell for? Once things become 2,500 to 1,200 they will stay there for a LONG time Can not meet the demand at those prices I am not the authority of such things and we always leave things out of the equation! Too many variables.. People cashing out!! APYTHON4U: I saw a super cinny on Brian sharps table in Philly last year that had a deformed face the one on Morph Kings site also seems a little off, do most super cins seem to have this (how many are there)? NERD,INC: Brian Potter needs help with funny smells! Yes!!!! You nailed that, they have a narrow face I have both of those snakes and they have that! The two that Brian had I saw another and it also had the strange head. I still like them and do not see it as a big deal. We will breed the fat head into them!! Kind of weird still the same APYTHON4U: thanks NERD,INC: U R welcome Marks: Will spider balls stabalize anytime soon? They seem to be on a roller coaster this year. NERD,INC: Spider balls... That whole thing happened because someone or two got their hands on a free spider Easy to cash out when there is no investment and you want only CASH!! Marks: Free Spider? how'd they work thats? NERD,INC: Makes it hard for the decent people that invested in them...can happen to any project!!! Long stories. Some underhanded stuff!!!! Near to stealing! Brought the price down.. but spiders make great stuff and they will level off Marks: Is there a lot of the underhanded stuff in balls or does it just seem that way? NERD,INC: Yes, the ball market is a bit ruthless and there are some bad things going on behind the scenes!! Vicious!! As the ball python world turns....Soap opera! When there is money involved we see the worst of people!! I hate it in fact! We do learn who the nice guys are over time alejandro2004: what is NERD? NERD,INC: New England Reptile Dist, Inc NERD for short..plus I am a DORK!! Like a NERD!!! pocket protection sold here! At NERD On sale!! Philly_nr: Nerd: I've invested over $25k cash into ball python morphs (Mojave, albinos, pastels, ghosts, females, etc). If you're going to do it, do it big is my mindset. Am I foolish to expect good returns on my money or shoul I be worried? thanks NERD,INC: No, you will get your money and then some Breed them and it will happen Think of it this way It is your hobby that actually has the potential to give back to you!! Very few things can breed!! I think the market is great, it just changes Philly_nr: Thanks Kevin, you made my evening! I've got a considerable investment to be concerned :-) NERD,INC: Think about what you want to see and then make it! No worries, breed and you will be very happy with your accomplishment!! TomChambers: In your line of Caramels I have heard of hets producing t-neg why , is there something different about your line? Also my male from you was sold as pos.t-neg as well as het t-pos ? NERD,INC: I do not know!!! I was very surprised in fact!! I need to breed the original male to an albino If they came from the dad then they are I wish I could tell you a better answer but I am clueless here! NERD,INC: How's your awesome frosted ghost?? TomChambers: great breeding like crazy jordanm: Your opinion on the best non ball investment snake. Particularly some of the newer morphs entering the market. NERD,INC: Hmmmm...let me think new stuff I think you have to rely on the right basics that make the other stuff I like stripes... Shoot, I missed the non ball investment.. Ok, I am back on track!!! Albino hognose and such are good!! jordanm: hehe too broad of a Q i guess, sorry NERD,INC: Blood pythons are going to come up I love giant smart thinking snakes so of course RETICS!!!!! Some monitors are worth a shot!! jordanm: someones wispering in your ear : ) NERD,INC: Yeah, she is whispering I think there are many good things.. I like too many things so I am a bit lost on that one! Dwarf burms may be good to reduce the size! Some of the smaller boas are exciting people! Ok, I am rambling Faust Lives In Total Dorkness_nr: Hello and thank you now Kevin at the end of this chat Faust and I will educate you on dorkness also do you find husbandry any different between Angolan and ball pythons NERD,INC: I have stock in pocket protection No, they seem to be the same Angolans of course seem to eat more and grow bigger Seem to like it a bit cooler They seem to also like it dry! Faust Lives In Total Dorkness_nr: also do you feel that are species are a better investment I have found that a rare locale specific species hold their values better 5hen morphs of common ones NERD,INC: I think they have come down and the people that wanted them got them at a higher price range and they are now breeding them and the price is coming down Species better investment thing rare species versus morph? Faust Lives In Total Dorkness_nr: after all regardless of morph they are just ball pythons NERD,INC: Yes, just a perception Faust Lives In Total Dorkness_nr: so to me rare species especially small ones go well NERD,INC: We create living art and try to sell it as an investment.. if word war 3 came on Thursday they would be worthless Friday!!! They are just icky snakes!!! PetMania: what morph do you see holding it's value in balls? NERD,INC: Albino, Caramel, Stripe, Clown, Pastel, Ghost, PetMania: which would you start with NERD,INC: The basics are good, you need them to make other things. Pastel Quick results and they make good things! PetMania: thanks Crazycodykadunk: What new royals do u expect to see in the comeing years? and what morphs are not really out there? NERD,INC: So many are not yet there. New stuff...From me? Albino Corn boas... Albino corn python boa Angolans.. Ok, for real Axanthic spider, Axanthic super, Axanthic bumble, Spider stripe, Pastel stripe, Bumble bee stripe, Coral glow something, Platty combos, Spider caramel, White things, Pastel ghost spider, I feel like I am going to jinx myself. I have not even started this year. Cinnamon bumble, Cin spider, woma times whatever Crazycodykadunk: how soon we see these NERD,INC: Maybe this year Crazycodykadunk: next 10 years? NERD,INC: Albino stripe? Yellow belly this and that!! Fire ball this and that! I don't know,,, I am as lost as you!!! imridethelghtng: in your experience what do you think is more important in the reproduction of ball pythons temperature or photoperiod also when breeding your pythons do you cool them individually or just cool the whole room NERD,INC: Temps. The whole room. Low 70's works for me. I do shorten the light too...added value type thing. At the new place I have total control over these things so I am way excited on that front! Humidity too!! From dry to humid and back to dry can help! DemonFrog: what would you say your biggest expense as a breeder is? NERD,INC: Labor!!! My god awful mortgage!! Mistakes, I make plenty at huge losses at times. Bad decisions. Having a nice place to keep them.. Freedom breeder racks are a huge rip-off!!!:) No, I meant they are great!!!! For sure, they are the rack to use in my case!!! Getting too big is stupid too!! reptilegod324: do u keep any monitors. if so what kind NERD,INC: Yeeeeessss!!!! Albino water monitors, albino blue tail, black throats, Argus, Crocs, Dwarf Australian..a few Yellow tree, I luv dem!! reptilegod324: wuts the setup on the blk throats NERD,INC: A challenge!! Hot and dry. A walk in cage so they can whip me, Give em lots of room to line me up for the hit!!! Black throat.. keep them hot, they become fat if they do not get a chance to BASK in the 100F range reptilegod324: wut substrate NERD,INC: Cypress seems to make the best sense for me. They love to dig.. They will even make a burrow if give the chance. vary the diet if you can. no raw meat!!!! RaulGomez: Hey K and K ....What was the youngest a male ball python has ever bred for you? I have an African CH pastel from this year that is at about 400 grms. Should I try to breed him and hope he keeps feeding or wait till next year? And where do you see pied prices in 2 years? NERD,INC: Ok, I have done it in less than a year...BUT!!!! I have made some mistakes trying to raise my males up tooo fast.. My killer bees I raised hard and fast...they failed to breed for me!! My albino spider that too RaulGomez: just didnt breed or cant breed? NERD,INC: It seems that some of them will grow fast but do NOT BREED!! They seem to be the last ones to breed for me even! They can breed but I think they do not develop the testosterone that makes them breed!! You can make them big but not want to breed! But there are others that breed small.. Get him to 600 grams and breed him a bit later in the season.. that should work plenty of time for that Pieds...$2,500 and STRONG more white, more the demand, more money, more money, mmmmmmoooorrreee money!! RaulGomez: what I figured...thanks guys JesseWilson: What do you think is a better investment at this time and for the long run, pied or caramel albino? Thanks Kevin NERD,INC: Caramel Thomas j: Which ball would be the best to invest in? NERD,INC: Man, that is a hard one. I think a golf ball is better to throw than a tennis ball at trick or treaters, they drop much better with a harder ball!!! Ok ,for real A bowling ball!! But I can not throw it very far!!! SPIDER, MAKE BUMBLES!!! You will love it when you hatch one!!! SMOKIN!@!!!!!! Thomas j: I got a Mojave and a pastel What else NERD,INC: I don't know if the Mojave will make a bunch of great combos.. It may.. It seems to be alot like the platty.. And we know you can make white gems with those!! Carmels, stripes, Clowns Hmmmmm...I am not sure on exactly what to suggest diablodragon: what is a yellowbelly, and why is everyone so excited about them and how do you get a 100%het NERD,INC: The world will bow to the FIRE BALL!!!!! The "yellow belly" If bred together we make ivory near white balls diablodragon: cool NERD,INC: Ok, the only certain way to get a bonafide yellowbelly is to get it from someone that makes the ivories. I think I know what a yellow belly is and I have a number, But there are ones that kind of look like it but I am not sure about it until I breed it... It is incomplete dom type thing possibly. Lots of vanishing on the sides and some frosting with weird yellow too but...they come in out of the wild. some sneak by and you could get one for DIRT!! So they are fun!!! palex134: Hey nerd hows the Axanthic Pastel? NERD,INC: GREAT!!! Fat pig!!! Waiting on the next shed to post... To clean up.. He is a MACHINE!! I think he is about 456 grams now!! I am very happy with it.. just as I would think it should look like! toyvet: Has the foreign market ie. Europe, Japan gotten the Ball morph bug yet or is that market untapped ? Thanks NERD,INC: Europe...they were a bit slow to start but it is going. As far as a Japan.. they like the $2,500 and below morphs. Behind us in tooth brushes and in morphs!! Kidding!! Macroclemys: do those who produce morphs spend alot of money, time, materials to produce any particular morph? Hence the high price. NERD,INC: Yes, they take chances...in the beginning. you know after the pool of water and an amobae... we took chances and had no idea if it was genetic.. lost lots of money and lived DREAMING!! Did the work and it made it easier for the latecomers.. less chance.. But, you have to pay the dough if you want to get the collection big fast.. Snakes can die...no matter who you are, investment gone! varanidfan: How are you doing with croc monitors, do you have palns to work with any other monitors in the near future? like banded whites? NERD,INC: I have built the new place and have yet to build the kind of cage they deserve.. but I will... can get them to lay eggs but that is a problem... they are not getting the right nesting situation... In the past year I have failed all croc breeding...very busy with the building. hope to refocus soon. I like good ole normal gorgeous crocs. That is a dragon!!! I love my big male. he is awesome varanidfan: do you find all monitors to be tricky with nesting? I have a problem getting my indo monitors to nest.. varanidfan: intimidating? NERD,INC: I think this has to do with space, territories and temps of the nest sight! Females need their own space to feel secure: They will not lay eggs if they fear the nest being predated...if the nest temps are wrong they may hold the eggs beyond a viable point and give you duds.. varanidfan: do you encounter eggbinding as a result of this NERD,INC: I am working to understand this and fix it. No, I don't se much in the egg bound area.. but young females can be lost the first time through. I know that in chameleons they will often hold the eggs too long and this will end the females life.. Not finding the right conditions when they need it can ruin them! Small females have a hard time passing the egg past the pelvic area arik: whats the status of the axanthic retics. when can we see some pics and when do you expext to breed them NERD,INC: They are breeding now!! Retic females are 3 years by the time they are ready!! No way around that. 3 years ago I made the hets.. now the girls are big enough. We have one female with nice follicles right now. I KNOW this year will be it!! They are going to be awesome! Anthrax is the adult male that makes the granite backs arik: do you have pics posted and im missing them NERD,INC: We have pics of the dad on the site. No babies yet...This spring BackBeat: which line of leucictics is the black-eyed pictured on your webpage from? or is it a new line? and also, any news on the your 'Pearls'? NERD,INC: Black eyed.. From the wild. My pearls are clunkers. They were goofy.. I have raised up outbred animals to see if that fixes they wobbly head. That is a bummer to say the least.. Time will tell for sure!! Crazycodykadunk: where are desert ghost going in price? and how many are really out there i read there are only 5 and that u have one but i see a bunch at shows they real desert ghost? NERD,INC: I do not think they are desert ghost. I have seen many wanna bees for that one. I have around 5 I THINK. I also have these other lemon lime things. I do not know what they are...but bred to a desert they produced normals. So, I am unsure to say the least. I think they are simple recessive but I may have a line that could even be co dom. I do not think there are more than 20. I think they are worth gold!! 25K As adults they smoke!! v2r: have you tried no substrate incubation like they do for chondro eggs? what is your temp regimen? NERD,INC: I think Chondros are pretty basic to hatch. I use vermiculite and sphagnum. I am too much of a baby man to try the now sub method. I like to control things too much for that! Temps on those 90F. As they hit day 45 drop the temps and mist the heck out of the eggs! softens the eggs so the baby can slit out. Drop in temp slows it down. Found too many dead babies at the higher side. Drop it to 86F Philly_nr: Ok, a fun question now. What do some of the low end to high end ball python breeders gross per year. Guesstimates are ok too. (I'm not with the IRS so don't worry) NERD,INC: I have no idea...You mean a guy or girl with a few morphs? Philly_nr: Yes. And even the "big guys" NERD,INC: I am not trying to be dodgy here...I just don't really care about net. even with my business....money is not my objective. Paying my bills and keeping the kritters well is! I think you could easily make 100,000 with a 30K investment in short order mpuexotics: Is there a albino croc.monitor out there?I thought I saw one a while back. Also a caramel burm NERD,INC: Caramel burm yes, The croc thing I do not believe so. I would OWN it if there was one!@!!!!! DemonFrog: do you ever want to go on a cricket killing rampage? but seriously what would you say the most important thing is for someone looking to start a breeding business? and do you think someone should bother with the less known snakes like redbelly and brown snakes? NERD,INC: None of those... Do it in your house. Stay focused. I mean that!!! : Do not stray. you will fail with more species you try. Hate your computer. Yes, I love crickets. I have them everywhere!!! tjw: Do you think that Blood Pythons have the market potential as Balls do in variety of morphs. NERD,INC: They are blood pythons... You know...BLOOD pythons, they make you bleed!!! : Amazing what a name can do.. I think they are great...but I don't care if everyone shares my opinion! : I think they have massive bodies for such a short snake. I love big snakes...I think they will get bigger. I know they will...TRACY is the QUEEN. as far as I see it she is TOP DOG there with no one else to even touch what she has done: Hard to beat A RED smokin python reptilegod324: wut retic morphs will we see in the future NERD,INC: Golden Child patternless retic!! I think that is it.. It is finally something crazy and NEW!! Co dom too!! You can not beat that since the tiger!!: W/o the tiger retics would be old hat. then there was the albino.. That is hands down the best albino!!! Golden childs are het lucy!! So, I think!!!!! PristinePythons: Kevin now that the Mojave to Mojave produces lessers what will that do to both marets and the leusies NERD,INC: Moj to moj produces lesser. I don't think so PristinePythons: so I have heard NERD,INC: I have not heard that and I think that would be strange Crazycodykadunk: what is ur feeling on all the fake morphs NERD,INC: The ones on the classifieds? The this and that? Crazycodykadunk: like the people think there normal is something special NERD,INC: I think a bunch of that is just plain dumb. It has a spot so call it this and sucker someone into thinking it is genetic Crazycodykadunk: u think its bad for the hobby It is all money based and GREED is the feel!! When was the last time you saw something there that was cool but a make believe one? The breeders do they work, they have the REAL stuff!!! Those are not the snakes to make other great snakes in my opinion Crazycodykadunk: do u get offered fakes NERD,INC: Yes....Yes..Oh Yes.. the ole double het albino pied thing. I know someone that got nailed there!! Scum bags out there waiting to pounce!! BE CAREFUL!! Beau: kev,,, hey man.. can we look forward to seeing coral glow x spider or coral glow pastels anytime soon?? NERD,INC: yes, I hope this season imridethelghtng: where do you get cages large enough for your breeder retics do you buy them or build them yourself ive got the giant constrictor bug myself and have always had to build my own cages and its a hassle to say the least id rather buy than build thankfully none of my giants are to the point i need to build cages yet gotta love retics though. NERD,INC: BUILD them. Awesome ones. the BEST ONES!!! PVC makes great material. But expensive imridethelghtng: what is your method to heat the cages you build NERD,INC: Heat tape, a little goes a long way in PVC. I have to take pics of the new cages we have built. They are hands down the best looking and working big cage out there!! I have spent oodles of loot on cages and my snakes destroy them. SO I had to learn from my mistakes and design better ones imridethelghtng: do you have any problems with them warping NERD,INC: No warping, None at all 8BallPythons: Hey Kev ... always wanted to know ... NERD,INC: Adam, NO FUNNY STUFF!! 8BallPythons: ... who would win in a fight Lemmy or God? 8BallPythons: uh oh 8BallPythons: too late PristinePythons: lol PHFaust: Lemmy is god imridethelghtng: lol NERD,INC: Lemmy, he has too many warts to be beaten by god!!! PHFaust: trick question 8BallPythons: Hi Kara! NERD,INC: He is gnarly!! NERD,INC: She says hey low 8BallPythons: ok ... I'm done being a dork! Thanks guys! NERD,INC: I like dorks. And nerds. And QUEENS! geckogod2: i have seen spider balls as low as $4500 and as high as $15,000 , what do you attribute the large range in price aside from male/female price difference...is it representative of the morph value? NERD,INC: No, it is a few people crashing the market.. cashing out for cash... not be accomplished with the morph Just making money geckogod2: can they be expected to increase in price next season NERD,INC: They will come to a level and enough people can afford them and then they will stabilize. Females are gold to me!!! YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT WHAT THAT SNAKE can help you accomplish other than selling it!!! I am my own biggest customer! robb brown_nr: hey kev just wanted to say hi, can you get any crocodiles in the near future. say hi to billy for me. have a good one. also if you havent heard it the new iron maiden cd is kick ***. NERD,INC: Doing a new CD, real mean metal in fact!!!! In time you will get a copy. Doing Judas priest pain killer on this one, I have a 3' nile coming for you!! gisherps: What would you suggest as a large lizard for to breeding AND personality.(ie,somethig cool I can hang with and a good easy breeder and good investment) NERD,INC: Solomon isle skink!! Um... A water monitor is GREAT!!! Love them!! gisherps: really? NERD,INC: Yeah, a water monitor, big and tame!! Like a dog!! gisherps: I've been looking at tegus, white throats and cyclura NERD,INC: Yes, I have an 85 gentle giant that kids can hang all over.. i love that animal more than even YOU!!!! gisherps: WOW NERD,INC: I have some nice rhinos but they freak out when you pick them up...weird!! White throats are always huffy.. some tail whipping from HELL! Tegus are cool but loafs! PHFaust: Rhinos do better as free roamers... they don't deal well with confinement... NERD,INC: I of course all of that stuff too!!!:) I have one that chases you for food...it is fearless. My biggest is a 18 lb male Bull dozer is his name yellowheadretic: what is the best retic to invest in NERD,INC: When I sell them the GOLDEN CHILD will be the one!!!! What will a super of that be? : A white one!!! APYTHON4U: do you have any albino pastels in the works and do you think they will be anything special NERD,INC: No, I do not and no I do not think they will be. Just like my failed albino ghost!!!:) diablodragon: how hard is it to breed black tree monitors? and whats tthe best set up for them to breed? NERD,INC: ok, I think it takes a nice cage with arboreal situation. A wider diet than we often attempt. in the wild they eat birds and lots of lizards!!!! Lots of hot UVB light!! Trex make s the best UVB bulb in my opinion! Nest boxes. more than one. so the female feels safe to nest. No handling. As they are comfortable they will potentially lay every 3-4 months. incubation takes some patience tricks to hatching monitor eggs too!! Not easy!! Deep substrate for the eggs. Pack the box and keep the moisture content the same!! Camlon Reptiles: Hi K & K! What do you think about Dwarf Burms and do you see a good market potential for them, and what about Super Dwarf Retics? We love the BIG GUYS, but can't handle them. NERD,INC: Dwarf burms..YES!! I think there is plenty of room there. I have some!! : Super dwarf retics... I am not impressed to be honest. My Golden child is a DWARF~! Selayer. Dwarf burms are real! Golden child is the patternless weird retic we produced Camlon Reptiles: I hope your planning on breeding Burm morphs into the Dwarfs, are you? NERD,INC: Yes, I plan to. I love the granite burm morph, imagine munchkin burms Camlon Reptiles: That's very cool! We hope to produce some (Burms) in 2005. NERD,INC: Really? I had no idea...good for you!!! Venture out!!! Camlon Reptiles: Granites are to die for! NERD,INC: Big dopes! Camlon Reptiles: We have to depend on guys like you to breed them down! NERD,INC: Yes, I love them...the best of the burms. I still love the biggens!! I want to make 50' snakes to eat all of the LIBERALS!!!! AnneMarye: What do you think the largest contributing factor is to black phase white lip pythons not being common in reptile collections? and do you think they should be? NERD,INC: Highland species that is angry. at times..... Hard to breed. I have only bred D'alberts once!! AnneMarye: I"ve got a female..about 5 lbs 6 ft or so.. do you know the adult weight usually for the blacks? NERD,INC: They are impressive when they are big. I have some small ones that are pure EVIL!!!! I would guess 6 lbs..... But I am stoopid...to dumb to spell it!! Duh!! :) AnneMarye: :) so main reason they're not mainstream is because them being hard to breed? NERD,INC: 8lb sounds big, But I had a 9 lb ball python. Yes, and the babies like to bite!! I like them, I just find them high strung and a trick to breed!! NERD,INC: Jeff B, please leave you are not welcome here! jeffb: Why do I look like a tree? NERD,INC: You are rude and mean NERD,INC: Inbred too!! jeffb: lol NERD,INC: No, you LOOK RICH!!!! PHFaust: LOL I do hope you are kidding about the rude and mean... inbred Ill let ya get by with because he is in Texas reptilegod324: tell me some history on the borneo bateaters and my savanna monitor keeps blowing up and he wont deflate untill i leave him aloneand also every time i pick him up he crapps on my how can i get him to stop NERD,INC: He may have a parasite problem. Gassy? Flagyl may help that!!!! reptilegod324: no he just puffs up like a ballon NERD,INC: Borneo bateater...breed a retic to a burm and get some infertile eggs and maybe some good hybrids. I bred them together and failed to get good eggs, they were sterile.....I have to try to outbreed them. Breed a bateater to a retic and you can make jungle retics.. They are harder to produce but GORGEOUS!!!! NERD,INC: Jeff B, please stop whispering sweet nothings!!! jeffb: Oh I thought Kara was answering WICBRAE: Hey Kev has that been done already ?? NERD,INC: Yes, I made them!! Jungle retics. This past year I failed/...... No, it is all me witch! i made over 144 bad potential jungle eggs on a bad roll Macroclemys: can color be past onto the offspring even though a particular snake does not show that color? NERD,INC: As in spontaneous morph? Macroclemys: not a morph NERD,INC: There are many things that we have no idea why. I think you can have two animals produce something unlike the adults. i had a het albino that was striped and almost axanthic, nothing like the adults. Look at classic jungles. Out of no where, there they are. you could get smoking babies.. regardless of what the parents look like. I can make gorgeous pastels from a normal ugly and a nice pastel Macroclemys: i have a yeloow conda who's father is a bright yellow and mother is a dijon color NERD,INC: I have yellows like that and they make nice babies PristinePythons: Kev where do you see the Cinny pastel market going in the next 2-3 yrs. A super cinny has been produced and is real popular. Then again after people see the outcome of supers and crosses prices seem to lower. OH and Selayer's are dwarfs? Though they were like bali's "a smaller local". With the dwarf burms, any thoughts of breeding them into Runts? A friend of mine has a 6ft runt albino burm that pounds rats weekly (over 3 yrs old). lastly with the borneo bat eatters, any plans on trying to make mini's with dwarf retics and the dwarf burms? NERD,INC: Mini on the bateater sounds cool and I will try that one.. Selayers are dwarfs. small. male is tiny! Cinnys are cool. They make the dark snake and now we have to make the albino of that and so on...As they stand they are not the greatest thing but as a combo they may be very good. they are a pattern and color variation and that is VALUABLE... potential, it is all about that!! PristinePythons: cinny pastel market. have a baby male comming from this season NERD,INC: Market. I think they will come down around the $7,500. Some of these morphs may be sleeper and they may at first miss their potential and later realize!! NERD,INC: I love the super. I think that is worth alot!! a lot even! nabbyg116_nr: Are u going to be at the reptile show in Philly on Nov. 13th and 14th, and are u going to have any Albino Burmese pythons for sale, and for how much? NERD,INC: Yes, We are sickening!! eating defrosted mice dhrsterling: What do you think of the Mojave market? And what price do you think they should be at? NERD,INC: $12 - 15 K would be nice if they for sure made white snakes : I think the prices at 30K is kind of out there and unrealistic dhrsterling: What is a better investment platty or pinstripe? NERD,INC: Platty dhrsterling: Why? NERD,INC: Unless, there is a crazy super pin, But I could be wrong.....I often am. I think the spider is more remarkable than the pin. I am not trying to be a jerk. Just an opinion. The bumble bee has to be one of the best morphs hands down!!!! The platty has some stuff we still need to understand. The tones on the sides are very weird. I want to see the combos. the pin is too much like the spider but no crazy face or head dhrsterling: Brian's ghost pin is pretty cool! NERD,INC: Ghost pin is VERY COOL!! I love that one!! He did GREAT!!!! I love the pin.. Just making a choice CrzyflsrepDennis: how much interest have you seen in albino bloods and that market? NERD,INC: The albino blood market is quiet. i think they need to be a $1,200 snake.. You have to see them when they are big!! They change sooo much!! Psycho-One: what is the deal with the "Leusistic" Tokay gecko's NERD just accuired? At the price of $2500 i know that's beyong my spending for a gecko....Is there goin to be a high demand for them? Also I was At the Tinley Park Ill. Show and A guy was teaching me ways to "tame" a tokay.. is it possible? NERD,INC: I have them.. I stare at them.. i am presently lost on them because of the new building.. But I think they are something Genetics, they are genetic but the babies are normals and then they change...I think it would be a cool $1,200 lizard. They are something when they are raised friendly!! When they are biting you they are near worthless. Yes, they can be tamed...TRUST!!!! they must trust you first!! APYTHON4U: whats the deal with burmese disease? is it real, is it common? NERD,INC: You mean the dreaded snot? Mico plasm. Incurable. Treat the symptoms but it gets inside a healthy cell and it hides. kind of like aids!!! Bad!!!! APYTHON4U: contageous NERD,INC: Yes, for sure!!! Spread easy! It has ruined many a good burm collection. Mites carry it like the plague in a burm collection!!! Say NO to mites!! jeffb: 3 quick questions NERD,INC: Ok, go big man!! jeffb: 1 where do you get good enchiladas in new hampshire NERD,INC: No, Kara has to make them for you!! jeffb: 2 when is the next Crotallica world tour NERD,INC: December 3rd. Supporting our new CD!!! CROTALUS!!!! jeffb: 3 when are you going to have the salt tanks filled at the new store? NERD,INC: WHAT!!!!!!! How did you know that?? B****!! jeffb: fish man PHFaust: Hey now language... would look bad for me to boot our guest...;) NERD,INC: In few days.. Had to wait on the water treatment system!! Just got it!! jeffb: the fish hear everything NERD,INC: How did you know.. I am so tired of that!! NERD,INC: I got stung by "B" and I had an "itch" I COMBINED THE TWO!!!! J GNPReptiles: What do you think of the butter balls? Do you think they are a different version of the lessers? Also, what do you think is going on genetically with the calicos/bubblegums.... NERD,INC: The bubble gums are the white sides.. i was the first to nail those...just some are better than other.....roll of the dice like pieds.. Butters sure look like a lesser...but i think Ralph would make better sense than I. How about those spider butters? yes, I think they are. But I have seen Mojaves that almost looked like a lesser. Very confused!! They vary sooo much!! GNPReptiles: I agree. all degrees on the same line NERD,INC: Yeah, time will tell.. this stuff is still new and we have alot of work to understand this stuff! But it should be fun! Marks: So how are your coral glows/whitesmokes doing? Are you going to produce unmixed ones this year? What are you mixing them with? Are there any males of this morph? NERD,INC: No males. I hope to do a bumble to coral... No jinx!!! I am afraid Marks: Are any going to be sold or are you keeping them all? NERD,INC: I have no idea,,, Do not count your chickens before you get your eggs Marks: I think they would look cool with just about anything... NERD,INC: I agree they would. I plan nothing gisherps: so you guys say that cyclura can be temperamental and free range type lizard but won't a "gi-normous" Water Monitor want to go where he wants too...even if he is nice about it? NERD,INC: They tend to be lazy and do not like to work hard, sit out and bask and then wallow type stuff. I can take the biggest male outside and leave him there in a water soak. he does not run away and when he is done he hides under the closest thing he can fit under gisherps: lookin for the puppy lizard ya know? NERD,INC: He is absolutely the puppy lizard!!! BoaJeff: What were the black retics you had at Tinley? What will you sell one for? And if your ever looking for experienced help, call me ;) And how did you and Kara get started in this biz, i've been breeding quietly for years and just can't figure out how some guys like you 2 can do what they do with the amount of snakes and business! Is it luck or just something I'm missing? And since Jeff B brought it up I love the songs I've heard of Crotalus. CD available in stores? NERD,INC: No CD in stores.. we can send you one... The black retics were my golden childs.. I have not even really named the morph yet...our new cool retic...Love it!! You would hate to work with me.. I like to dress like little bo peep and yell at everyone that works for me!!! My hobby gone wrong. It starts as our hobby and then speeds along and then we ruin our lives and work forever!@!!!!!!! Playing maid! We also met through snakes!!! BoaJeff: thanks kev! any plans on selling a golden child or hets? NERD,INC: No het golden childs...co dom thing PHFaust: Well hell we are at the end of the list so I will ask the final question... Some of our vendors like to send samples to Kingsnake for us to review their products... Any interest in sending a killer bee in for review? :) NERD,INC: Sure, I like to Auction off bumble bees!!! PHFaust: yeah I saw that in Tinley... I did notice you went several shades paler than albino PHFaust: Kevin I want to take this time to say thanks for spending SOOOO Much Time with us here at Kingsnake this evening... NERD,INC: I loved it,,,, I hope I made people at least smile!!!
