Meet PH Pines! I started with an interest in animals at a young age - probably about the time I started crawling. We had various pets while I was growing up. Besides the requisite dog, we had cats, rats and a hamster. When I was about 10 I said I wanted a bird - a parakeet. My parents said, "Why do you want a bird - you can't hold it or pet it?" Well, we did get a budgie and though he was never tame enough to hold or pet, he was very entertaining and lived to the ripe old age of 10. I can't remember when I wasn't interested in herps. We never kept any as pets when I was a kid, but I would catch them and put them in a box and look at them for a while before letting them go. There was one particular garter snake that I always knew where to find. It lived in a rockpile behind the house. By that time we had another dog and Tippy soon figured out what I was looking for. We would go to that rockpile and she would sniff around for a few seconds and then scratch at one of the rocks. I would lift the rock and there would be the snake. I think the snake finally had enough of me because one day it bit my finger and left a U-shaped row of pinholes. It didn't put me off though, and I kept hunting snakes and frogs and toads.
My zoo now consists of cats, ferrets, birds, two pet rats, several snakes, and a pair of leopard geckos. To support them (and myself) I work in technical support for a company that makes products for life science research. PH Pines is a host at Kingsnake.com. |
