This is my on line journal for the 1999 - 2000 breeding season.

 | October 12
 | Found 2 eggs in sweat box. Burger was thin the day we found the eggs, so
I am guessing that these are hers. The eggs were quite dry, one indented, and one almost
flat. We are guessing that they were laid on 10/10/99 in the evening. I had not been
checking the sweat box for eggs yet as it seemed too early in the season. The sweat box
was pretty dry as the weather was still warm, and it was drying the sweat box out quickly.
 | I noticed Gex (male) wrapped around Gomez (female) as I was showing
these to visitors. After touching Gex, he moved away from Gomez, and had been obviously
mating with her. The reproductive organ was visible and bright red. I wish I had a camera,
as this I feel was a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a picture of this.
 | October 25
 | No eggs since 10/12. Rearranged the tanks for the babies and adults,
adding larger sweat boxes, and more sand.
 | I moved the 4 babies into 1 tank, and checked the sexes. It is possible
that we have 1 male and 3 females. We are still looking and checking. At this size
(4"-5") it is still hard to see. And they will not hold still long enough for a
magnifying glass.
 | October 28
 | I saw Gomez digging at the sand, trying to push it into the sweat box. I
checked the sweat box and saw only 1 egg. Gomez was still fat, so I closed the sweat box
and watched her for a while. Both of the other females had left the sweat box, and Gex
(male) was still in there. It seemed to me that he was trying to help her. He was licking
her and nuzzling her, and she would rest her head on him.
after a while, I left them alone, returning 20 minutes later, and checked the sweat box,
there were 2 eggs. I removed them and placed them in the incubator. We now wait and see if
this clutch will hatch as this is her first breeding.
 | November 5
 | Sticky laid 2 eggs today, I was watching her bury them.
 | After watching Burger for the last 2 - 3 weeks, I do not think that the
first clutch of eggs we found were hers, we think that they were Gomez's as she laid a 2nd
clutch 16 days later. I will be taking Burger to a friends home, and putting her with that
male, to try to get her mated. it does not look like Gex will mate with her.
 | November 8
 | We found 2 eggs from Gomez today. |
 | November 14
 | We took Burger to a friends house today to mate her with His male, He seemed to take to
her right away. We will see what happens. |
 | November 19
 | We found 2 eggs from Sticky this morning |
 | November 21
 | We found 2 eggs from Gomez this morning |
 | December 6
 | We found 2 eggs from Sticky |
 | December 12
 | We found 2 eggs from Gomez |
 | During the last few weeks, I have been lazy in keeping this journal, so I will now
update on the activities. |
 | we have 12 eggs at this time. The Nov 21 eggs did not turn out well, We have one egg
from that clutch, and it does not look like it will make it. The Nov. 8 clutch has lost
one egg also. The 2nd egg looks good so far. We are excited about the first clutch
hatching, It could be any time now. Tomorrow I will be setting up the small tank for the
babies, so it is ready for them. |
 | December 20
 | We found 2 eggs from Sticky |
 | December 26
 | Our friend was animal and house sitting for us as we were on vacation. When we returned
from the East coast, There was a note congratulating us on the birth of 2 baby geckos. The
clutch of October 28 had hatched. One of them has a stripe that will show well, the
smaller one has a slight stripe on its head, we are not sure if it will be a striped
fat-tail or not. The smaller one was not eating and was very small, so I gave it 3 drops
of Stimulap. It seems to be doing better now. |
 | December 30
 | We found 2 eggs from Gomez |
 | I also noticed Gex and Berger mating. Hopefully we will see eggs from her soon. |
 | January 4
 | The clutch from Sticky, on November 5th, is hatching. One baby we found this morning.
The second egg was still in tact. Tonight, as I type this, we saw the head of the other
baby sticking out of the soft shell. We took some pictures, (as usual) and put it back in
the incubator. We will be checking in about every 15 minutes. We first saw it at 8:40 PM.
We are interested to see how long it takes them to actually hatch. We WILL keep you
updated! |
 | January 5
 | The baby came through, it is living and all, we will have pictures soon.
We checked on the baby at 9:00, 9:15, and 10:00 PM. It looked as if nothing was going to
happen, and perhaps the baby was not going to make it, the next morning, there it
was. as healthy as could be.
 | January 27
 | Last night, we found 4 eggs in with our 1 year old babies form last
year. Yes, that's right we have started breeding them also. here is how the tanks are set
up, and what has been happening over the last 2 - 3 weeks
 | We moved Berger, Gomez, and sticky out of the tank, we noticed
some fighting among the females, so we separated them. We took the 4 females, from our
last years breeding, and put them with Gex, (their father). We have heard that inbreeding
with the parents isn't bad, as long as you do not let generation after generation do it,
so this one time wont hurt anything.
 | We traded a striped baby, one of Gomez's babies, for a large, 2 year old
adult male. We put Him in with the 4 females from last year, and moved Gex back in with
Berger, sticky and Gomez.
 | Last night, we found 4 eggs from last years babies. we are expecting
many more.
 | on January 25th, we found 2 eggs from Gomez.
 | At this point, we have eggs from the following laying dates.
 | Sticky 12/6 (2 eggs)
 | Gomez 12/12 (2 eggs)
 | Sticky 12/30 (2 eggs)
 | Gomez 1/26 (2 eggs)
 | babies (4 eggs)
 | Any other eggs had gone bad.
 | June 29
Since January, not much really happened. We lost many
eggs this year. We believe the reason to be that the Temp in the
incubator was not correct. (my now 19 month old son, liked to play with
it) The last egg that we found hatched in March, and is doing
well. We will be keeping this one, and putting it with one of our sets.
It is the child of Nobby, so we will put her with Gex.
Berger has a strange bump on her head, and has had it
for about 3 months now. It is hard and rather large, we have tried Neosporin
on it to see if it was just from a injury, and that hasn't worked. our
next step is to take her to the vet. We have a great vet that
specializes in reptiles here in town.
This is our set up right now for our friends.
20 Gallon tank - Gex, Sticky, and Gomez
15 Gallon tank - Nobby and Uno
We will be putting these guys in a 20 gallon in the near future.
10 Gallon tank - Berger
10 Gallon tank - baby (2 - 3 months old)
When Berger's bump is gone, and the baby is about 8
months old, this is the set up we will have.
20 Gallon tank - Gex, baby, Berger, and Uno
20 Gallon tank - Nobby, Gomez, and sticky
We will also hopefully have another female at that time.
We are looking for one to rescue or to purchase from a private party
that no longer wants it. This 6th female will go in with Nobby.

This image was taken in November as I got to view Gex
mating with Gomez.
